Happy Harry is the king of Wessex cyclocross

CHICHESTER'S Harry Dridge has been crowned Wessex Cyclocross League champion of 2011-12 at under-12 level.

The Southdown Velo rider scored two victories during the 12-race series. His first came at Thruxton and the second at the prestigious South of England championships in Gloucestershire. When he wasn’t winning races Dridge was still finishing on the podium – so much so, his consistent placings allowed him to win the overall title with three races to spare.

Dridge said his best performance was the win at Thruxton while his low point was spending two hours in A&E in Reading after crashing and twisting his knee.

The ten-year-old will still be eligible for the under-12s next season and is determined to retain his title before moving up the following year.

During the summer Dridge will be racing on the tarmac tracks at Angmering and Porsmouth with the aim of improving his on-road results.

Cyclocross is an off-road cycle racing disciple run through out the winter. Racing is fast, furious and fun. It is an excellent introduction to cycle-sport for all ages.
