Arguably the most impressive Hastings AC performers at K2 Crawley on Saturday were Joe Body, Harmony Cooper and Ellen Crombie.

Body (St Richard’s Catholic College) marked his return from a lengthy injury absence with a terrific run to finish second in the intermediate boys’ 800m. He led all the way in probably the race of the day only to be pipped on the line, but had the consolation of cracking the two-minute barrier with a time of 1:59.80.

Harmony Cooper (Rye College) won the junior girls’ 1,500m in a personal best time of 4:54.04, while Ellen Crombie raced to a superb victory in the intermediate girls’ 3,000m, smashing her PB by nine seconds with a time of 10:35.

As for the rest, Josephine Edmunds came second in the senior girls’ 3,000m in 12:20.86 and her twin sister Nicole, also of Claremont School, was runner-up in the 400m hurdles in 1:13.10. Also in the senior girls’ category, Robyn Mackay finished third in the 100m in 13:21.

In the junior girls’ events, Evie Clements came eighth in the 800m in 2:38.00 and fellow Robertsbridge Community College pupil Maya Ramnarine was fourth in the 1,500m in 5:06.16.

In the intermediate boys’ section, Josh Williams (St Leonards Academy) came second in the triple jump with a leap of 12.44m and Jack Charnley ran 24:30 in the 200m.

Aaron Judah (St Leonards Academy) finished fifth in the 800m in 2:06.30 and Ryan Morrissy (Ark William Parker Academy) was eighth in the same race in 2:08.70. Marcus Ramnarine (Robertsbridge) was ninth in the 1,500m in 4:35.50. James Crombie ran the junior boys’ 1,500m in a PB of 4:56.

Two local athletes coached by Joe Fraser, meanwhile, were in the medals at the same event.

Kiera Aslett (Helenswood Academy) destroyed the field in the under-17 girls’ 800m, winning by half the length of the home straight having led all the way.

It was her third Sussex gold medal of the season and sets her up nicely for the South East Schools’ Inter Counties T&F Meeting in Carshalton this weekend - an event which Ellen Crombie is also competing in.

Aslett, who is supported by the Hastings Youth Trust, is very happy with how her season is progressing.

Sarah Huxstep (Robertsbridge) won a bronze medal in a very competitive under-17 girls’ 300m. Coming into the home straight she was back in fifth place and then dropped a gear to cruise past two other athletes.
