Hastings crash to heavy defeat

HASTINGS United's run of poor results continued on Saturday when they crashed 5-0 away to Bashley in the Dr Martens League Eastern Division.

The scoreline somewhat flattered the home side but it was woeful defending that led to the downfall of Steve Lovell's men.

Going forward United looked capable of causing problems and it took some good saves from David Elm in the home goal to keep the visiting forwards at bay.

Stuart Myall returned in midfield following an 11-month absence through injury and showed his class early on but is clearly not match fit and was replaced at half time.

Lovell said: "It was very harsh. It was a game of two halves if you like. First half I thought we never started - we were still on the coach. A few boys needed a little bit of a rollicking and second half we came out and showed what we can do. Even at 3-0 down we could have got something from the game."

Bashley's goals came from Andy Culliford (9), Dave Wakefield (32), Danny Gibbons (37) and Richard Gillespie (76, 80).
