Hastings crowned county champions

Sussex Darts Super League East Division champions Hastings clinched the Divisional Play-off by beating West Division winners Littlehampton 6-3 at Clubcue Leisure, Worthing, on Wednesday, last week.

Mick Evans started the ball rolling for Hastings with a 3-0 win over Simon Parker in a low scoring game. Phil Wanstall continued the good start, defeating Simon Casey-Rodgers by the same margin.

Littlehampton fought back to take game three, with county star and man of the match Craig Stoner winning 3-1 against Shayne Burgess in a high scoring contest where both players hit maximums.

Luke Hardy put Hastings 3-1 up by recovering from 2-0 down to beat Nathan Warren 3-2 with 13, 16 and 15-dart legs. Hastings captain Adi Boyle lost 3-0 to county star Gary Blackwood and Adam Bryant suffered the same fate against Courtney Wilson as Littlehampton levelled at 3-3.

Game seven proved to be the best of the evening with Hastings star Adrian Gray coming from 2-1 down to defeat another county player, Greg Upton, 3-2. The two men hit 22 tons over the five legs and Gray sealed victory with a 104 checkout.

Mark Stafford clinched the title for Hastings with a 3-1 win over Cliff Prior aided by a maximum in the fourth leg and a 26.42 average, the best of the evening for Hastings.

Hastings, who are based at the Millers Arms pub, were awarded the ninth game due to a missing Littlehampton player.

Hastings previously finished 13 points clear at the top of the East Division after winning 15 of their 16 matches.
