They travelled across the country to find the type of racing they were looking for, with Chris Harvey and Charlie King having the furthest to go as they headed east to Yarmouth on Sunday.

Harvey from Haywards Heath raced in the 2-litre Hot Rod class in a competitive field of drivers. On the tight bends of the Norfolk track he found it difficult at first to work his way through the pack.

In the heats his No 3 car weaved its way through to take a strong sixth place despite some hostile attention from his rivals.

With double points at stake in the final race, Harvey’s fellow drivers were all out with the intention of boosting their own positions in the Hoosier Tyre League. A see-saw race ended with Harvey again finishing sixth.

These results took him up to fourth overall in the competition.

At the same meeting, Burgess Hill’s Charlie King, was entered in the National Bangers World Series Round 6. On a day that became all about survival in this class, King, if nothing else, enjoyed himself smashing into anything that moved.

In addition to the wrecking, he did also manage to achieve a third place finish in the second heat.

Hayward Heath’s popular driver Tim James, had a great deal less miles on his clock as he took part in the Nudge & Spin World Championships held at Worthing.

Typically, James had a smile on his face as he competed all day but it was clear right from the outset that he was a marked man. So it proved to be as he quickly became the target of several bruising attacks that saw a premature end to his meeting.

The Spedeworth season continues at Arlington Stadium next Wednesday (July 10).
