Hawes breaks club record
WAYNE HAWES smashed Littlehampton Golf Club's course record with a round of 62 in the club's UpJohn Cup '” beating all previous amateur and professional scores.
Out in 29 strokes, a 59 looked possible when Hawes, who plays off a one hanidcap, birdied the 15th to go nine-under but the chance of 59 went with a bogey on the 16th. The previous amatuer record had been 66 and professional 64.
Hawes, who broke the 117-year club record, said: "After 15 holes, I truly felt I had a chance of a 59. My putter was working so well that I felt anything up to 20 feet was makeable.
