H&B aiming to avoid defeat repeat

HASTINGS & Bexhill will be hoping to avoid a repeat of last season's shock defeat when they visit Hellingly for a vital Sussex League match.

Depending on how results pan out in the rest of the county, victory over the First Division strugglers on Saturday March 15 could secure second place and a play-off spot for H&B.

Although H&B are hot favourites assistant coach Rob Hamilton is taking nothing for granted. "They are near the bottom of the league and should not present too much difficulty but we seem to struggle at Hellingly - we lost there last year," he said. "If we play to anything like our potential we should be okay and be very close to clinching that second place."

H&B warmed up for the match with a 24-5 win over a Folkestone XV. Craig Burgess went over for a couple of scores and there were also tries for Paul Northen and Martin Sheppard, with the rest of the points coming from the boot of Paul Sandeman.
