H&B avenge Hellingly defeat

HASTINGS & Bexhill boosted their promotion hopes with a resounding 44-0 defeat of Hellingly.

The win exorcised a disappointing defeat when the teams last met in October.

H&B touched down for six answered tries to keep them on the heels of the Sussex First Division leaders.

Warwick Benson (2), Paul Sandeman, Colin Brookes, Steve Pepper and Andy Hitch touched down, and Sandeman ignored the windy conditions to kick a further nine points. There was also a penalty try awarded after Hellingly gave away a string of penalties near their own try line.

Morgan & Lamplugh man of the match was Nick Edmunds, who as usual worked tirelessly clearing up around rucks and mauls.

H&B take a break from the league on Saturday February 9 with a friendly against a Worthing side.
