H&B bounce back with fine win

Hastings & Bexhill put the previous weekend’s heartache behind them to record a splendid win on Saturday.

Still smarting from losing 20-15 at home to Shooters Hill having been 15-0 up, the rugby triumphed 21-18 away to Old Gravesendians in Kent One.

Despite playing into a fierce wind and going behind to a pair of penalties, H&B took an invaluable 7-6 half time lead thanks to a Jimmy Adams (pictured) try and Paul Sandeman conversion.

Adams grabbed his second try and Sandeman his second conversion at the start of the second half before Matt Harbord touched down and Sandeman converted for a healthy 21-6 cushion.

With Sandeman yellow carded for offside and Dillon Newell injured, OGs crossed for two tries of their own, one of which was converted, but H&B held on during a tooth-and-nail last 10 minutes.

A full report will appear in Friday’s Observers.
