Hastings & Bexhill Rugby Club’s game away to Shooters Hill has been rearranged for tomorrow (Easter Saturday) having been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch last weekend.

Just two matches did go ahead in Kent One last weekend and H&B remain third, one point behind second-placed Beccehamian having played an extra game. The eventual runners-up will go into a promotion play-off.

It will be H&B’s first game since the Sussex Shield final defeat to local rivals on Sunday March 17. Shooters Hill are four places and 11 points behind H&B, and were beaten 25-10 in December’s reverse fixture at William Parker Sports College.

Rye vice-captain Gary Edmunds, meanwhile, has called on the troops to refocus after their Sussex Shield glory was followed by a 33-10 loss to Seaford last weekend. The New Roaders now take a break over Easter until their next fixture at home to second-placed Eastbourne on Saturday April 6.

“We have four training sessions between now and the Eastbourne game,” said Edmunds, speaking on Monday. “It’s important we train well and use those sessions to good effect. We really want to finish third and beating Eastbourne will ease the pressure on ourselves to do that.”

Rye currently sit third, but the Sussex One table is looking extremely tight with most sides having just two fixtures remaining.
