H&B gunning for shield glory

HASTINGS & Bexhill will be gunning for rugby cup glory when they tackle Seaford in the Greene King IPA Sussex Shield Final.

H&B have already beaten their mid-table opponents twice this season, 30-10 at home in October and 25-3 away in a howling gale at the end of January.

But team manager Rob Hamilton is anticipating an altogether closer tussle with silverware up for grabs at Lewes Rugby Club on Sunday.

"We expect to win on Sunday but we can't under-estimate Seaford," he said. "I think it will be much tougher, I think it will be tight and they will come after us. It will be their big day and their biggest game for about five years I would have thought. I think being favourites does create a bit of pressure. We can't just turn up and think we're bound to beat them because we've beaten them twice - that would be very, very unwise. I will be very happy with a win by any score but we have the players."

Martin Sheppard's cartilage injury isn't as bad as first thought and he could be fit but Seb Halligan (groin) is doubtful and Roger Roberts (back) is definitely out. Rob Sparks (ribs) will return. Kick-off is 2.30pm.
