H&B home in on top two

Last weekend’s results have left fourth-placed H&B within touching distance of second spot in Kent One. The eventual runners-up will go into a promotion play-off at the end of the season.

But head coach Chris Brooks has insisted throughout the campaign that the top four is his target and even now the club is in a position to challenge for the top two, he maintains promotion is not the main priority.

Brooks said: “The real aim is to get both the twos and the ones playing a closer standard of rugby so that the interchangeability is a lot easier.

“At the moment we’re looking to develop the twos to be more of a platform to be launching players into the ones. There’s been movement between the ones and twos, and the twos are looking very good as well.”

H&B will host bottom-of-the-table and still winless Old Gravesendians tomorrow (Saturday) eager to build on a good 22-5 win at Lordswood last weekend.

“It was a very good start to the new year,” added Brooks. “The mobility of the pack and speed of the backline overhauled the opposition in the second half.”
