H&B playing for pride

HASTINGS & Bexhill are looking to finish the rugby season in style with a trip to Horsham in their penultimate match on Saturday April 6.

Assistant coach Rob Hamilton said: "We've beaten them at home and if we can win this and the last game against Heathfield we can finish third in the division. It's about pride now and we want to finish on a bit of a flourish."

H&B played Hove in a friendly game last weekend, but were faced by a much stronger team than expected and they lost 53-0.

He said: "We'd arranged to play their second side but once again we ended up facing several first team players.

"It makes us wonder what the value of such games are, getting ambushed like that when we're trying out young players."

Rhys Bendon should be in the H&B line-up after returning from university where he has been playing for London Irish under 21s. Steve Pepper, Dave Sprinks and Rob Sparks are all expected to be available again, but Paul Sandeman is likely to miss the last two games through injury.
