H&B ‘playing well enough to win league’

Hastings & Bexhill Rugby Club head coach Kevin Smith believes that his side is playing well enough to clinch the Kent One league title.

H&B moved to the top of the table on Saturday when they overcame Old Williamsonians, while previous pacesetters Cranbrook dropped to fourth after losing at Vigo.

Having watched H&B win seven of their first eight matches, Smith feels that his side is more than capable of maintaining its impressive position.

“It’s still early in the season, and there are some good sides in the league, but yes, I think it’s possible that we can finish at the top if we keep everybody training,” said Smith.

In order to get a firm stranglehold on the league, Smith insists that H&B can’t afford to become complacent and must continue playing like they were able to last weekend, despite appalling weather conditions.

“We played a very good side and we had to break them down. They’re a thinking man’s rugby team and two or three years ago I think Hastings would have lost against a side like that,” continued Smith.

“We need to keep working hard, keep improving and continue to put in the good performances on the weekends.” H&B are fixtureless this weekend.
