Hearts and Minds Mission

THANKS to the dedication and vision of a Sussex woman, help is being provided for the donkeys of Israel to improve their status and promote their welfare through education.

Lucy Fensome is the founder of Save Haven for Donkeys in the Holy Land, a charity that relies entirely on donations to be able to continue its vital work.

She first went to Israel from Sussex in 1989 at the age of 19 and worked for the Jerusalem Society for the Protection of Animals, where she encountered terrible cruelty inflicted on donkeys throughout Israel and the Palestinian Territories.

Donkeys have been used as beasts of burden in Israel for the past 5,000 years. They can be bought for as little as 100 shekels, less than 13, and because they are inexpensive, very little value is placed to their well-being.
