Two teams - the Lions and the Tigers – competed at the Eastbourne Festival giving the Under 7s a chance to put their newly acquired rugby tagging skills into action. The Lions squad won all their pool A matches against Heathfield 1’s (8-6), Crowborough 1’s (8-4) and Hastings 1’s (8-6) and then in a nail biting final against Heathfield 1’s, Heath ran out narrow winners 7-6 – a great result for the squad achieved by their determination and work rate and their relentless tagging. The Tigers played well winning two of their three pool C matches and narrowly missed out on the finals play off on try difference, but went on to win the third place play off. A fabulous day of great rugby by both our Under 7s squads.

This built on Heath U7s success the previous week when two teams competed in the Hastings Festival - the Wolves and the Lions - both performing very well in their pools. The Wolves drew 4-4 with Crowborough 2’s followed by a loss to Hove 1 in the pool and then a close 6-4 loss to this same team in the Pool Final.

The Wolves were then faced with a very tough match against Crowborough who they beat in closely fought match to run out as runners-up in pool B. The Lions squad had an exceptional day at Hastings winning all of their pool matches against Uckfield 1’s (9-2), Hastings 1’s (11-6), Shoreham 1’s (7-3) and Eastbourne 1’s (10-4) before going on to beat Hastings 1’s (5-4) in a fiercely contested final to become overall winners. This meant the Lions returned as overall winners of pool A with Wolves runners-up in pool B. The opposition coaches highlighted Heath’s winning edge as being “fantastic tagging and superb support running”. But the biggest result of both Festivals over two fabulous weekends of rugby was that all the Heath Under 7 children had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed themselves playing competitive tag rugby and learning new skills.
