Heather and Debbie take Hailsham tennis title

Hailsham Tennis Club brightened up what has been a highly frustrating year for sport when they held the first of their tournament finals.

This year’s ladies’ doubles final saw new pairing Narun Chea and Helen Hemsley come through the semi-final against seven time champions Chris Packham and Sam Noakes to face the holders Debbie Hughesman and Heather Keating.

Narun and Helen knew that they would be up against it.

That’s because they were playing the ladies’ team captain Heather partnered with previous team captain Debbie.

So it proved, with Heather and Debbie coming through in straight sets – although the final was keenly contested.

Club president Graham Landon presented the trophies at the end, saying that he was happy to be able to present them in a year when there was doubt about whether any tournaments would be played.

The men’s doubles, mixed doubles and the singles finals are still to be played.
