Helping ex-racehorses

WEST Sussex based artist Trudy Redfern has become known for her fine paintings of racehorses and is holding a one woman exhibition at The Joy Gallery in South Street, Chichester, from tomorrow (Thursday) until August 1.

During Glorious Goodwood, the gallery will also be opening in the evenings so that racegoers can go and browse.

Trudy specialises in painting animals, particularly horses, so as well as being the resident artist at Fontwell Park Racecourse for a year and Lambourn Open Day this Easter she was asked to paint The Bob Champion Cancer Trust 2008 Xmas card and calendar.

She studied fine art at Gloucester College and her passion for horses and animals led her to study animal behaviour at Southampton University.

She has ridden all her life and used to exercise racehorses and play polo. She owns an ex-racehorse, Deep Chance, given to her by Carrie and Lawrence Zetter-Wells whose racing yard is at Wisborough Green.

Her daily contact with horses provides her with an opportunity to study their grace and movement. She captures it on canvas using bold colours to express their spirit and behaviour. Trudy uses a combination of life studies and her own photography for her work on canvas.
