Herbert snaps up silverware at Snetterton

Aldingbourne driver Luke Herbert needed all his racing knowledge in torrential conditions at Snetterton Circuit, Norfolk, for round two of the Ma5da MX5 cup.

In his SRC Recycling backed MX5, he qualified on the front row in second place.

A brilliant start saw Herbert up into the lead off the line but after carrying too much speed into the first corner Herbert ran wide on to the grass and into the tyre barrier. He rejoined the track at the back of the pack and fought his way up to finish sixth.

On Sunday, conditions hadn’t improved after gale-force winds and rain all night. Herbert’s grid position was determined by his finishing position in the previous race.

A row-three start saw Herbert make a fantastic start and by the time they entered the first hairpin he was third. He soon got his head down and hunted down the car in front and overtook it for second place, where he stayed.

Race three saw a reverse grid for the top six which saw Herbert start in fifth. Another blinding start saw him up into second by the first hairpin and he set about taking the lead, which he did a lap later.

From then on he drove a flawless race – until a small mistake at the last corner on the last lap saw the second-placed driver close in.

But Herbert held it to take the chequered flag by a tenth of a second for his second win of the season.

The championship now moves on to Anglesey, North Wales.
