Hickstead: British look to claim top league spot from USA

THE British showjumping team will be out for revenge at this year's Longines Royal International Horse Show, determined to make the jump from runner-up to first in the eight-nation Samsung Super League with FEI Competition (Great Britain).

At the British Jumping Derby Meeting, all eyes will be on the youthful Ellen Whitaker to see if she can be the first female winner of the famous DFS Derby since Alison Dawes in 1973.

And it could all add up to another fabulous season at Hickstead.

The British round of the Samsung Super League with FEI could well be the last pre-Olympic Games trial for the national squad.

They will be battling it out this year against teams from Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Sweden, Belgium and last year's winner at Hickstead, the United States.

And with such a variety of international riders in residence, entries for the prestigious Longines King George V Gold Cup should provide a field worthy of the historic solid gold trophy and a prize fund of 60,000.
