Hills are alive for national darts finals

The first of the qualifiers was the Winmau world championship county qualifier. Twelve places were up for grabs for men, women, boys and girls.

After a good afternoon of darts, Jason Hills from Midhurst qualified for the regional finals at Slough.

Hills is hoping to qualify for the national finals and compete alongside brother Andy, already through.

Andy Derrick from Roffey, Jim Withers from Eastbourne and Dan Waller from Brighton are also through to the next stage.

After this, the world pro qualifier, with only one winner to qualify to Hull later in the year, also saw a high standard of darts.

In the first semi-final Jason Hills needed all 15 legs to beat Tony Peters from Roffey. The second semi saw Jason Yates from Lancing again needing all 15 to defeat Withers.

The final was intense with never more than one leg difference throughout, but eventually after 14 legs Hills took the winning double.

In the youth boys’ event, Harry Annals from Bognor qualified for the boys’ Winmau world championship regional qualifier in Slough.

A charity darts tournament at Littlehampton managed to produce some good darts despite a low attendance.

The eventual winner was PDC player Tony Ayres who beat Mick Rogers from Littlehampton 10-3.
