Holly aims to go out on a high as Fontwell celebrates Diamond Jubilee

The jumps course’s general manager leaves next week to become commercial manager at the FA’s prestige new home of football coaching and education at Burton. But she hopes to go out on a high with a huge attendance at tomorrow’s (Sunday, June 3) Dimaond Jubilee race day.

Glover was at Fontwell Park last Boxing Day, just before she took over as general manager, when 8,000 poured through the gates. She is hoping for a repeat of that this weekend.

She said: “The phones have been going crazy this week as people get into Jubilee mood and start to plan their weekend. We’re aiming to make Fontwell Park the perfect place for a Jubilee party.

“We’ve had 143 entries in total for the seven races which should leave us with good-sized fields after final declarations.

“And the seven races will be complemented by lots of free entertainment, like fairground rides, face-painting and the big screen which will be showing the Jubilee celebrations from London in between our races.”

Gates open at midday and racing begins at 2.30pm and runs until 5.30pm.

Fontwell has strong racing links with The Queen – her first win as an owner was at Fontwell with Monaveen in 1949. Fittingly, an exhibition named All The Queen’s Horses will be at the racecourse on Sunday.

Tomorrow won’t be Glover’s last at Fontwell – they race again there next Wednesday.

After that she will be replaced as general manager at Fontwell by Tracy Skinner, formerly on the management team at Newcastle racecourse.

Phil Bell remains in an overseeing role as Northern Racing’s executive director for the south east.

Bell said: “We wish Holly all the best in her new position with the FA. She’s given Northern Racing seven years of excellent service in sales and management roles. We’re delighted to be welcoming Tracy to Fontwell Park – she’s a first-class manager with an excellent sales record.”
