Honour your Littlehampton sports stars

LITTLEHAMPTON Town Council and the Sports Forum will again be looking to honour local sports stars in the 2012 Sports Awards.

The awards are to recognise the achievements of sports people from Littlehampton and those who give up their time to help sports teams/organisations in the town.

The awards have steadily grown since they were first staged in 2005 and this year that trend is hoping to be continued by increasing the number of nominations from last year.

There are nine categories in which sports people can be awarded including sportsperson of the year, which is sponsored by the Littlehampton Gazette, young sportsperson of the year, coach of the year, sports team of the year, youth team of the year, administrator of the year, contribution to youth sport, contribution to disabled sport, the much-coveted Mayor’s award, and the lifetime contribution to sport award.

The closing date for nominations is September 14, 2012, and all those put forward will be considered by a judging panel with the winners announced at an invitation-only awards ceremony to be held on October 8 at the Coco Lounge – which is the main sponsor of the event.

The ceremony will be hosted by a special guest who is yet to be announced.

The chair of the community resources committee, councillor Alan Gammon, said: “There are many sports people in Littlehampton who have excelled at their sport and deserve to be recognised for their achievements.

“It’s not just sports people that need recognition but also those that work tirelessly behind the scenes making it all happen that need to be acknowledged and we ask the public to let us know who they are.”

Nominations can be made online via www.littlehampton-tc.gov.uk or a nomination form can be picked up from the town council offices.
