Horsham Bar Billiards round-up: Milestone for ladies team

The Horsham & District Bar Billiards League’s ladies team recorded a milestone with their first inter-league match for 15 years on Sunday.

The ladies returned to action in the Sussex Inter-League Competition for the first time since 1998, and although not among the winners, achieved a creditable third place.

Their prospect was a daunting one, as proved by Brighton Ladies who retained their title at the Hurstpierpoint Club winning the competition for the fourth year running and the 15th time overall.

Nearest rivals Redhill were runners-up for the third time in four years,

Worthing and Redhill ‘B’ were missing from last year’s lineup and the Horsham team of Ding Johnson (three wins), Hayley Tunstall (two wins), Lorraine Hall (four wins), Margo Thompson (two wins) and Vicky Timson (two wins). finished just ahead of Mid-Sussex whom they beat 7-3 in their head-to-head, having first lost 2-8 to Brighton and 4-6 to Redhill.

Meanwhile, the Horsham League’s mens’ team finished just a point behind Hastings at the Hurst Club.

After four of the five matches, all six teams in the competition were separated by just three points but a 4-3 defeat of West Sussex in the last series of games saw Hastings pip Horsham to the Division 2 title.

Dave Howlett, Adam Kuzimski and Keith Newman recorded four wins from five for Horsham, while representing the Billingshurst League, Rick Dewdney and Ding Johnson also recorded four wins from five.
