Horsham beat Mid Sussex in opening match of the season

The opening match of the West Sussex Billiards League season played at the Clayton and Keymer Royal British Legion saw Horsham clinching a 3-1 victory against Mid Sussex.

The dominate Dave Liley opened strongly to beat the host’s Stuart Williamson 200-103 which included a fluent 32 break. The following frame was a close call seeing the marauding Maurice Wickens ousting the battling Barry Martin 200-176, the Horsham Skipper built a 32 break with Martin securing a 33, a close encounter saw the visitor’s John Hoad pipping Ken Warren 200-193.

With the whitewash looming, the Middies Skipper Ian Janman was under pressure to beat the determined Adrian Laker, with years of maturity behind him, Janman put in a dogged performance to win 200-155. The referees Dennis Wakeford and Roy Tucknott were impressed with the high scoring match seeing Horsham reaching 755 cumulative points with the Mid Sussex reply of 672.
