Football fans have been adding their names to the list since it was put online on Sunday evening, and on Thursday just before 5.30pm it reached its initial target.

The petition is part of an overall appeal to see Horsham FC end a nomadic seven years without a home, including a drive on Twitter using the hashtag #Home4Horsham.

The club is getting ready to submit a full planning application, expected at the end of the month, early April.

The supporters’ campaign has garnered support from people in the town as well as further afield, including a number of fans of Premier League Swansea City, who have fond memories of their famous FA Cup meeting in 2007.

The proposals have been met with some opposition, largely from residents who live near Worthing Road, where the club plans to build.
