Horsham Joggers out in force again at Worthing 10k

Another busy week saw 26 Horsham Joggers members compete in the Worthing 10k Road Race - the ninth of the 20 Sussex Grand Prix events - on Wednesday June 5.

The flat, fast course and cool but sunny weather encouraged some fine performances. Dean Angell was first in the Vet 50 category in 36:45 and Catherine Corck was fourth fastest woman ina new pb of 41:17.

Raff Vitale also ran his fastest 10k yet in 41:48, and there was a superb SGP debut from newcomer Anna Titchmarsh, who was second female Jogger home in 49:59.

Two other Vet 50s put in strong performances - Tony Frankland (40:20) and John Dyckes (41:14); and blind runner Mick Duplock (Vet 60), accompanied by Julia Johnson, finished in 1:00:30.

Following success the previous weekend in the South Downs 100-Mile Relay, in which the Joggers’ veterans’ team came fourth, the club competed in its baby sister event, the South Downs Relay Marathon, on Saturday June 8.

Nigel Edney, Alison Gormley, Julia Johnson and Tony Johnson ran the four legs, achieving 31st place in a time of 3:48:46.

The next day, another group of seven Joggers tackled the Hove 5k Race, part of the West Sussex Fun Run League, which takes place on the paths around Hove Park. The club’s most senior runner, 83-year-old Eileen Quinton, dismissed the challenge in 33:08, while Raff Vitale scored another personal best of 20:21, just four days after Worthing.

Also taking part were Elisabeth Scott (25:49), Margaret Wadman (27.06), Edna Clark (31.08), Stephanie Charman (32:06) and Jenny Boyd (33.07).
