It was an important win for the side in their first England Hockey League Conference East match since the end of November, and they went into the home match buoyed by their National Division Two Indoor League victory last month.

After 19 minutes of hard play Lauren Keefe scored the opening goal to put her team in the lead, and it stayed 1-0 to Horsham going into half-time.

The girls came out for the second half playing some excellent hockey, not allowing the St Albans team any real chances at goal.

A wonderful passing move ended with Steph Dent setting up Courtney Pickford to make it 2-0. St Albans looked for a way back into the match but as they did Louisa Denman stole the ball from the visitors’ defence and on the reverse she slapped home a third.

The side were playing some great stuff, and it was only in the last 30 seconds that St Albans managed a shot at goal, and from a corner they found a consolation goal to leave the final score 3-1.

The victory moved Horsham up to sixth place in the Conference East league and coach Ben Allberry was delighted with his team’s performance.
