Horsham RFC win dramatic Sussex Cup final

A try in the final minute of the match saw Horsham RFC crowned Sussex Cup winners after they beat Lewes in a dramatic final at Bognor on Sunday.

The Green and Whites battled back from 12-0 down to win 17-12 and lift their first cup trophy for 20 years.

Lewes started the stronger and scored the first two tries to race into a 12-0 lead.

Jonny Ordidge crashed over for Horsham just before half time for what was to prove a crucial score. Horsham pressure in the second half saw them awarded a penalty try after Lewes were penalised for persistent infringements, which Matt Brown duly converted.

With the sides locked at 12-12 extra-time beckoned, but in the dying moments of normal time Arun Thompson crashed over in the corner to snatch victory for Horsham and give the club their first cup success since 1994.

With Lewes suffering relegation from the London 2 South East league, the sides will face each other in London 3 South East next season.
