Hot racing at Angmering

ANGMERING Raceway sweltered under a cloudless sky and the racing was as hot as the weather on June 14.

With the track bone dry and the cars able to gain maximum traction as a result, the drivers were able to power around the track in fine form, leaving burnt rubber on all the corners as their tyres screamed in protest on the hot tarmac.

The Classic Stock Cars provided a real blast from the past for the fans, with some old style bumper bashing around the track. Several of the venerable old stock cars expired in the heat, but not before 210 Vicky Thorpe had shown the lads the quick way round the track and under the chequered flag in heat 1. The final was won in fine style by 356 Steve Hillier.

Modern day racers competing on the day saw wins for 207 Jack Grandon (visiting from Ringwood Raceway) in the Junior Rods, 676 Phil Young in the 1600 Front Wheel Drive class, 936 Mike Scutt in the incredibly rapid Hot Rods and 385 Jay Blenkinsop in the Saloon Rods Rear Wheel Drive.

Other visiting drivers in podium finishes included 494 Karl James in the Nudge and Spin Bangers and 989 Mick Hibberp who claimed a third in the Saloon Rods Rear Wheel Drive.

Superstox racing action saw a limited field of the powerful single seaters deliver some very rapid racing with the final coming down to 133, Mick Ramsay, with 623 Dan Smith second and 380 Vic Searle in third.

More hot racing, regardless of the weather, is promised for June 28 when a full card of contact and non-contact formulas will take to the track.
