HOTSHOTS FOR THE TOP

HAILSHAM Hotshots Senior Men's Basketball Team are celebrating their second place finish in the Sussex Men's Basketball League.

This team have come on in leaps and bounds this year surprising many to make a legitimate title bid. The team won 14 of the 19 games played in the league and were only beaten to the top spot in the table by a very strong and experienced Bognor Pirates team.

In the final games of the season Hailsham were beaten by one point after extra time by eventual champions Bognor, and in the last game of the league the Hotshots beat cup winners Brighton Bears to cement the second place finish.

Cheered on by a large crowd of families, friends and supporters the team recorded a 95 point to 92 point victory to complete the season in style.

Head coach Peter O'Neill said: 'I am very proud of how the team have performed this year. We have trained hard to become organised, focussed and disciplined on the court, and this has proved to be the key to our success.'

Overall it's been an exciting season for Peter and the team.

In total the team played 30 games since the season began with a pre-season tournament in Exeter, winning 21 games in total against all opposition. The team also took part in an exciting international tournament held in Ireland last February.

Hailsham Hotshots run boys and men's basketball teams from U13 level through to Senior Men.

The club have many talented players and a strong coaching staff and look to build on their success.

With young stars such as Lewis Grant, Ian Berry, Ross Pudsey, Martin Akehurst and Ashley Westgate challenging for places on respective England teams, the club will no doubt be celebrating many more successes in the near future.
