Hotstars success points to bright things at Horsham Hockey Club

With a second successive league title already wrapped up, Horsham Hotstars ended their super season in style with an emphatic 8-1 win over Brighton & Hove Gulls.

Having been confirmed as league champions the week before with victory against Worthing, their final victory over a strong Brighton side saw the Hotstars remain unbeaten in 2013 having won all eight games.

Coach Lisa Marshall said: “This is a very challenging league to be part of as it mainly includes experienced players that want to play a higher level of hockey.

“The average age of this season’s Hotstars team was 12 to 13 years, so they have been playing against much older teams - which is why winning the league is such a great achievement for our young squad.

We have been very lucky to have two coaches, Fran Crossley and Paul Neave that have long, successful careers in hockey and have been an inspiration to our girls.

“Many opposition coaches have commented on the skills of our players and it’s no surprise that so many of them have been selected for County Teams.”

Against Brighton Hemma Ahluwalia and Sophie Ragg scored two goals each, and a great short corner strike by Katie Piper and goals from Maddie Piper, Annabelle Edwards and Jemma Murphy made it 40 goals in the last eight games.
