Huge haul of county medals for judo club

BEXHILL AA Judo Club's junior Falcons squad achieved a large haul of medals for the third time in as many weeks.

The Little Common Road-based outfit recorded four top three finishes in the Sussex Red and Yellow Belt Open.

The Falcons' seven-strong squad (pictured) returned from Worthing on Sunday November 12 with two golds, one silver and two bronze medals.

Amber Russell was the first of the two winners and among her victims in the u63 class was a Sussex squad member, whom she defeated by throwing for Ippon.

Tuesday Logan also struck gold in the u40 category, throwing for Ippon to win all four of her contests. The first was her toughest because she had to survive being thrown for Yuko and a strong hold-down before coming through for a hard-earned success.

Ajit McCarthy showed considerable promise for the future by taking silver in his first ever competition courtesy of winning three out of four encounters.

Connor Mellish lost his opening clash in the u34s, but won the next three with textbook throws to scoop bronze.

Sam Wood put in some strong showings in a large group, Connor Dunn won one out of three in another sizeable pool and Gaura McCarthy participated for the first time.

Bexhill AA Judo Club also savoured the sweet taste of success at the Southern Area Orange Belt and Under Competition and the Hampshire Open over the two previous weekends.
