Invitation Cricket League round-up

TWO local bowlers go into their matches on Saturday on a hat-trick.

Clymping's Richard Waddington and Rustington's Mark Page both took two wickets in two balls to wrap up the innings of Portslade and Felbridge, respectively, on Saturday.

Waddington, who took 4-21, will look to complete his treble at Keymer in Division 3, while Page, who grabbed 4-10, will look for his hat-trick against his old side Chippingdale, in Division 4.

Page, in Rustington's 89-run defeat at Felbridge, also gained a souvenir from the match. When he clean bowled one of Felbridge's batsman, he snapped a stump in half and has taken it home as a memento.

New Rustington captain Jamie Howick was pleased with his side despite their defeat. He said: "Only positives came out of the game and I feel we have turned a corner.

"Some teams don't get 11 points for drawing, so it's not a bad return for losing. We only dropped one catch in their innings but that was Champness when he had eight. He went on to get 43 and those extra 35 runs made a big difference as it meant we were chasing more than 200.

"Batting, we were a bit rusty but we didn't lose our first wicket until the eighth over. Then our second went down in the 18th and we had a little bit of a collapse."

Karl Pierce, along with Waddington, took four Portslade wickets as they were dismissed for just 112, chasing Clymping's 225. For Clymping, Graham Blann smashed nine fours in his 59 and Gareth Challen, who returned from travelling only on Thursday, hit eight fours and a six in his 44.

Dangerous Portslade opening batsman, Ian Morley, who smashed 157 not out at Clymping last year was bowled by David Blackall's first ball of the season for a duck.

Portslade did recover to 76-2 before collapsing to 112 all out, with four wickets falling on their final score.

Arundel started life in Division 2, after relegation from Division 1 last year, with a comfortable 90-run win over Bognor Regis.

Australian, Jamie Scardifield from Perth, struck 56 with 13 fours from 63 balls, before falling to an excellent catch in Arundel's 253-6. Richard James, Ryan Chitty, captain Will Clark, Allie James and Stuart Apps all also chipped in with scores in the 30s.

Spinners Neil Chitty and David Wells then shared seven wickets to complete a comfortable win.

Arundel captain Will Clark said: "It was a very good start and I was very pleased.

"It was just what we needed to start the season and it was a really good team performance.

"There was a bit in the pitch early on but we stuck it out and everyone got a good bat with scores in the 30s.

"Jamie Scardifield looks very promising and played very well. He was out to a blinding catch.

"He wasn't in for that many balls and if he stays in for a while, he will get a bucketload of runs."

East Preston got their first victory back up in Division 3 with a 142-run success at Wisborough Green.

Sean Rebbetts hit 11 fours and a five in his 76 and Colin Smith struck nine fours in his unbeaten 73 as EP made 257-5 after being stuck into bat.

Down the order, Leon Davis hit 33 with three fours and a six, Joel Kingsbury 25 not out, with three fours, and Tom Reeves 25, with four fours.

Sussex junior Darryl Rebbetts then took four Wisborough wickets from his five overs. Eight of the 10 Wisborough batsmen were clean bowled.

EP captain Simon Locke said: "It was an excellent win. We were without Pete Dallimore, Ken Chapman, Sam Mellor and Chris Williams - four of our top six - so to get 257 for five was great.

"It was a really good batting pitch, with short boundaries, and Sean Rebbetts and Colin Smith got us off to a flier. It put us in a great position for the rest of us to come in and chip in with a few runs.

"We then bowled really well. Darryl Rebbetts is in the Sussex under-15 team and you can see why. He took four wickets and will be a class player."
