“It will click” says H&B coach

Hastings & Bexhill head coach Kevin Smith believes promotion is still possible despite a poor start to the season.

Having stated at the outset going up was their goal for 2012/13, H&B have lost two of their first three Kent One matches. Their latest setback was a 22-21 defeat away to Southwark Lancers on Saturday.

H&B head coach Kevin Smith said: “I think it’s still there. It hasn’t faded, but I’m actually thinking longer term now. Each game has to put a block in place for us to get a little bit higher and a little bit better.

“Everything’s achievable and I think the players are starting to realiseyou don’t get something for nothing. It will click, but we need to get a bit of self-belief and confidence back in our game, and we have the players to do that.”

With no league games taking place across the division this weekend, H&B have fixed up a friendly away to Hove III in an effort to get back on track.

The 100 per cent start to the season enjoyed by Rye Rugby Club is expected to undergo a severe examination in the first round of the RFU Junior Vase.

The New Roaders, who have won their opening four games in Sussex Division One, will visit Shooters Hill of the equivalent Kent League tomorrow (Saturday).

“It will be quite a stern test,” said Rye chairman Tony Pierce. “I don’t think we’ve ever played them before. Kent One is regarded as stronger than Sussex One but if ever we are going to beat them it’s now.”

Rye sit third in the standings after retrieving a half time deficit to win 27-20 against Holbrook last weekend.

Shooters Hill are third bottom with one win in three.
