It's Christmas controversy

SHOREHAM Football Club's Boxing Day clash at Worthing United ended in controversy as United fought back from 4-1 down with eight minutes left to level with a dubious penalty decision five minutes into injury-time.

Quite how Shoreham came away from this game without three points will probably be discussed until next year's festive period.

Eight goals, three successful penalties, two headers off the crossbar, one unsuccessful penalty and one sending off left supporters from both sides wondering if a partridge was about to appear from a pear tree. Ninety minutes of frantic County league entertainment provided a lot more excitement than anything the Christmas TV schedules could produce.

With the panto season in full swing, the final five minutes would not have looked out of place on stage at Worthing's Connaught Theatre.
