It's nine for king Joel

JOEL KINGSBURY'S career-best figures of 9-45 have lifted East Preston Cricket Club to the top of Division 4.

Right-arm medium-fast bowler Kingsbury has taken eight wickets in an innings before but he never had the chance of all 10 at Eastergate on Saturday because captain Simon Locke had taken the first wicket to fall.

East Preston had been put into bat and after both openers were out early on, Ken Chapman and Colin Smith added 61 for the third-wicket. Chapman scored 17 and Smith 49 '” the second time he has come within one run of a half-century this season. EP's final total of 158 was helped by 35 extras.

With the World Cup quarter-final being played, Eastergate went out to bat for 14 overs before the teams had an extended tea to watch the football.

At that stage, Eastergate were 35-1 and Kingsbury had figures of 0-14 from six overs. The rest during Eastergate's innings, though, allowed him to put his feet up and continue bowling when play resumed.
