Jimmy clinches county snooker title

BEXHILL snooker professional Jimmy Robertson captured his first senior singles county title at Eastbourne at the weekend.

The event was open to lower ranked professionals and it was the 17-year-old who emerged victorious from a competition he finished runner-up in two years ago.

A smaller entry than usual meant Robertson received a bye and his first taste of action was against Ashley Bull. After dropping the first frame Robertson rallied with breaks of 56, 66 and 83 to win through 3-1 and book a place in the semi-finals where a couple of 40 plus breaks and a 76 clinched a 4-1 success over the in-form Micky West from Brighton.

Providing the opposition in his second county final was friend and teammate Ben Dain (Eastbourne) who had done extremely well in the other half of the draw to reach his first county final.

After a couple of scrappy frames it was the Bexhill teenager who got into his stride, rattling in breaks of 45, 50, 66 and a terrific 120 in the final frame to take the match 4-1 and secure his first senior singles county honour. Robertson is sponsored by the Q-Ball and O'Sullivan's Snooker Clubs.
