The in-form Bexhill cueman thrashed Graeme Dott 5-0 in round one of the Wuxi Classic to set up a second round meeting with another Scot, Scott Donaldson, tomorrow afternoon.

Robertson, the world number 51, took the opening frame 75-1 thanks to a break of 62 and a run of 56 gave him the second 86-41. Dott, ranked 14, scored the first 41 points of the third, but didn’t pot a ball during the rest of the frame as Robertson came back to clinch it 79-41 with a 59.

The local man moved into a 4-0 lead at the interval after winning the next 54-2 with a top run of 37. Robertson, who edged out young Chinese amateur Zhou Yuelong 5-4 in the wildcard round yesterday, sealed victory by edging a tight fifth frame 67-49 aided by a 33.

The Wuxi Classic is the first full ranking event of the season and the first to be played under the new format where the top 16 players have to go through qualifying. Robertson reached the quarter-finals of the Bulgarian Open earlier this month.
