JOEL RETURNING TO FORM

MARESFIELD'S Joel Kidger completed a middle distance double and Seaford's Jason Hussain won the 200 metres in the senior events at the Sussex Track and Field championships at Crawley over the weekend.

Joel is gradually returning to the form that earned him a place in the semi finals of the 800 metres in the Commonwealth Games in Manchester four years ago but the weekend's opposition did not put him under any pressure.

In both the 800 and 1,500 metres Joel ran tactically to ensure victory.

In the 800 metres he eased to 1min 53.72sec, nearly two seconds clear of the runner up while in the 1,500 metres he clocked 3min 56.1sec, which was faster than his best time over this distance last year.

Chasing him home was Hailsham's Ben Warren who was well pleased with his second placing, just one second adrift.

The Under 20 men had to race with the seniors for their 1,500 metres title and it was, in fact, Hailsham's Scott Harris who whipped up the pace from the start and he ran his fastest ever time finishing third behind Joel and Ben to win the Under 20 crown in 3min 59.4sec with Sussex Downs College's Dan Stepney taking second place in 4min 02.5sec.

Jason, just back from warm weather training was in a class of his own as he swept to victory in the 200 metres in 21.85sec.
