The Barbadian’s match-winning form came as a below-par Slinfold had to dig deep to inflict draw specialists Rye’s first defeat of the season.

Batting first after winning the toss, none of Slinfold top order made double figures before Jordan (84) and captain Guy Thorne (51) steadied the ship from 14-3.

Another flurry of wickets fell and number ten Luke Dunning (22) was the only other to make double figures as they posted 202 all out.

Thorne said: “We weren’t at our best, but did enough to inflict Rye’s only defeat on them this season to stay at the top of the pack.

“Thirty points is always pleasing, but the scorecard tells a story and we were so grateful to a fantastic all round individual performance from Akeem Jordan. He showed what he’s about and almost won the game for us single-handed.

“We know he has performances in him like that and he lead from the front and put in an unbelievable show – despite not feeling 100 per cent in the morning. But that is why we have brought Akeem back to our club, he is first and foremost a delight to have around the place, is a top lad and we know what quality he has with the ball.”

He took 6-62 from his 14 overs as Slinfold quickly reduced their visitors to 98-7 of which James Hamilton hit 25 and Hugo Nel 35.

They did come up against a stubborn Harry Smeed, who made 73 batting at number eight, but Jordan dismissed him in his second spell and then took the winning catch as Rye closed on 187.

Thorne added: “We were in a spot of bother at 14-3, and together me and Akeem dug in, we got through a tough opening spell with the new ball nipping around, and once we got through a tricky opening, batting became easier.

“A mix of good bowling and lack of application and were in a bit of trouble losing five wickets quickly, but a great cameo of 22 from Luke Dunning helped us recover and got us to 202.

“In reply, the Rye batsmen came out playing their shots, but Akeem made regular inroads to keep the pressure up. We didn’t score as many as I’d wanted and our ground fielding wasn’t great, but to win when not at your best is a positive sign.”
