La Manga title could be Worthing's

WORTHING'S junior golfers had a great chance of becoming the Home Nations champions in La Manga, Spain, this week.

The England champions drew 3-3 with the Scottish, Craigielaw when the finals began on Tuesday and if both these fancied teams defeat the Irish and Welsh champions, they will tie for the title.

In that case, in the tie-break scenario, Worthing would need to finish with the better aggregate gross score and in this they led the Scots by 13 strokes.

The format is medal matchplay which asks each of the six team members to produce a better net score than his opponent. The margin of victory is unimportant.

Worthing got off to a superb start with their top two players defeating the best two from Craigielaw and the Scots feared a whitewash. But the three Worthing losers gave up leads over the final six holes.
