Lambert looks ahead to Division 1

John Lambert is tipping Sidley United to hold their own at a higher level next season.

The Blues clinched promotion to Division One of the Sussex County Football League on the back of an impressive final game victory away to Loxwood last weekend.

Lambert, Sidley's manager, said: "I know it's going to be difficult, as it always is when you go up a league, but I think we will be fine. If I can keep most of the side together, I think we'll be okay.

"On the whole the squad's good enough because a lot of them have played Ryman League. Defensively we're experienced, but midfield and up-front we're inexperienced. With a promotion you know you're going to get one or two sniffing or you can get a bit better than you've got."

Lambert and assistant Wayne Farrier, a hugely respected figure among the players, were appointed last summer after a disappointing 2008-09 season in which Sidley finished eighth with 28 points fewer than they totalled this term.
