Lasis brothers supreme as Crawley AC gain good result

The Crawley Men had a good result at Derby on Saturday to finish fifth while missing half-a-dozen key athletes.

The men’s ‘A’ team now sit joint-third on league points with Kingston in the National League Division 2 and only 17 match points adrift.

The Lasis brothers made a great start in the field by recording a double victory in the discus.

James won the ‘A’ with 45.30m and Matt took the ‘B’ in a new personal best with 43.37m.

The brothers continued their dominant form in the hammer and again pulled off a double victory.

Matt took the ‘A’ win with 58.74m and James the ‘B’ with a throw of 54.72m setting a new personal best.

Parallel to the hammer competition James Hollins was in great form in the long jump.

Hollins set a personal best by breaking the 7m barrier with an outstanding jump of 7.01m to finish third.

Elsewhere on the track, Jason Hussain was in dominant form in the sprints securing a double ‘A’ victory in the 100m (10.96sec) and 200m (21.28sec). Fred Afrifa clocked a fine 22.31sec to finish second in the 200m ‘B’ string to rack up good points.

Quarter miler Craig Cox had another solid third place performance clocking 50.24sec in the ‘B’ string 400m.

This position was also matched by Max Thomas in the ‘A’ string 800m with an impressive 1min54.25sec.

There were also fine performances from U20 athlete Sam Cunningham over the hurdles.

Sam set a personal best in the 110mH (17.97sec) and secured good points in the 400mH with a 58.92sec in windy conditions.

The sprint quartet of Cox, Overall, Afrifa and Hussain closed the afternoon with a third place finish in the 4x100m relay.

The final match result standings were:

1) Thames Valley Harriers 322

2) Notts AC 319

3) Kingston 298

4) Harrow 296

5) Crawley 270

6) Nene Valley Harriers AC 230

7) Gateshead 227

8) Bristol & West 208

The final fixture at Kingston is on Saturday, August 8.
