Last chance to nominate a young sport star in Chichester

If you know of any young sports stars or teams who deserve recognition, you can nominate them for an award.

Former Youth Sport Achievement Awards winners have gone on to become Olympic hopefuls, including fencing ace Tom Hendrie from Midhurst.

The scheme also recognises coaches and volunteers who give up their time to help young people take part in sport.

If you know of anyone who deserves recognition for their efforts, you can nominate them for a volunteer of the year or coach of the year award.

Nominations can be made in the following categories: team of the year, volunteer of the year, coach of the year, young person’s commitment to sport, outstanding contribution to sport, outstanding sports performance of the year and youth sport achievement.

The awards are organised by Chichester District Council, with the Observer and Chichester Priory Rotary Club. Cllr Eileen Lintill, cabinet member for leisure and well-being at the council, said: “Let us know of any young sports stars or teams who you think deserve an award so they can get the recognition they deserve – especially as it is the UK’s year in the Olympic spotlight.”

Forms can be collected from the council or Observer office or downloaded from www.chichester.gov.uk or obtained from Ben Polhill at the council.
