LATE PENALTY RILES REBELS

HISTORY will report that a controversial two-fold penalty decision by Sidcup referee Tony Mason ended Worthing's FA Cup run, deprived them of £5,000 in prize money and denied them the chance of a £10,000 payday from the next round.

But although many bitterly felt Rebels were robbed, some more hysterical said cheated, manager Alan Pook was having little of those sour grapes this week.

He commented: "I thought it was a penalty and I thought the young linesman who flagged for a retake was intimidated by the Essex crowd. But we lost because in the first half we failed to take chances to make it 2-0 and then defended poorly to concede two quick goals to go 2-1 down."

More details in Worthing Herald on October 16.
