Lawley hits a double at Rye

THREE GOALS in the last five minutes gave East Preston FC victory at struggling Rye on Saturday.

In a first-half with little to excite either set of fans, EP had gone closest through long-range efforts from Phil Churchill and Tom Levitt.

EP were the better side after half-time but had to resort to a long ball game because the pitch was not suited to their passing game. Steve Metcalf grazed the bar with a header and Levitt had a header cleared off the line and it looked like EP would make the long trip home with just a point.

But, with five minutes left, James Rhodes broke and pulled the ball back to Churchill who swept home his 12th goal of the season from six yards.

Almost immediately, Paul Brown won possession in midfield and hit a long ball forward which Tom Lawley, first-time, brilliantly volleyed into the top corner from 25 yards.
