Leading Light shows the way

GARY LIGHT is confident Bexhill Town can haul themselves clear of the danger zone in the Sussex County League.

Bexhill lie rock bottom of the Third Division on goal difference from three other teams, but Light has seen enough during his two months in charge to believe they can escape the drop.

"There is no panic, we have still got to play a lot of the teams from near the bottom of the table," he said.

Light was particularly encouraged by his team s performance last weekend in the 2-0 defeat at home to leaders Steyning Town.

"The effort was tremendous and we played some good football. It was just a case of not putting the ball in the back of the net," Light went on.

Bexhill s preparations weren t helped by the departure just two days before the game of goalkeeper Dave Browning to Shinewater Association which meant outfield player Del Longley had to take over between the posts.

It is hoped former Bexhill stopper Kusha Movaffagh will move in the opposite direction and his arrival would free Longley to return to the centre of defence.

Bexhill visit St Francis on Saturday February 9.
