Maresfield 187 Lewes St Michaels 2nd XI* 191-7 LEWES St Michaels Seconds gained a hard-fought victory over Maresfield at the Convent Field.

The visitors put in a solid batting performance, with a notable innings from the skipper Steve Veal who made 70. Chris Vacher (26) and Matthew Bennett (21) also provided runs, but the Saints’ bowlers were on fine form. Andy Osmond tore into the visiting side, finishing with outstanding figures of 5-30 from 15 overs, while spin specialist Pratik Patel took 4-56.

Maresfield were eventually bowled out for 187. A competent performance was required to clinch victory and the Saints batsmen did not disappoint.

Phil Lucas continued his positive start to the season with a 24, whilst captain Steve Mitchell led by example, top-scoring with an excellent 59. Steve Oliver also hit an unbeaten 31, and, despite the visitors claiming seven of the hosts’ wickets, the Lewes side reached the required total in the 45th over. Bennett was top wicket taker with 2-35.

Buxted Park 2nd XI 133 (33.1 ovs; George Cyster 46; Adam Murphy 6-41) won by 53 runs away to Pett 80 (overs unspecified; George Richardson 23; Simon Bulteel 6-32, Alan Stone 3-11). Willingdon 2nd XI 173 (45.2 ovs; Will Collins 72; David Hacker 5-49) lost by 5 wickets at home to Rotherfield 175-5 (32.1 ovs; John Baldock 51; Darren Peirce 3-21).
