Littlehampton close the gap

LITTLEHAMPTON Cricket Club moved to within five points of leaders Chichester at the top of Sussex League Division 2 on Saturday.

Chichester's match at Roffey was abandoned, with Roffey 48-2, which meant both sides got 10 points each.

But, at The Sportsfield, Littlehampton scored 220 before bowling Bexhill out for 134 to take a maximum 30 points.

Chris Kirkham top-scored with 79 in Littlehampton's total, with Justin Scott and Dan Rive each adding 33.

Matt Keen then took three wickets for 27 runs in Bexhill's reply.

In the Invitation League, East Preston won a high-scoring contest at home to Southwick in Division 3.

EP asked Southwick to bat first and Wickers responded with a total of 226-3 from their 49 overs. Southwick captain Chris Summers hit an unbeaten 137.

EP, however, reached their target with three overs to spare and for the loss of seven wickets. Jack Sunderland struck 81 and Pete Dallimore crashed 64. Southwick paceman Paul Grennan took 6-78 and now has 22 wickets in his last three matches.

Also in Division 3, Clymping lost by 129 runs at Wisborough Green.

James Salisbury took 4-68 as Green made 230-8 from their 49 overs after Clymping stuck them in.

But, Clymping were then dismissed for just 101, with Ben Thatcher grabbing 5-31.
